Motorvatin' USA American Auto Club
Motorvatin' USA - The club for owners and enthusiasts of all makes
and years of American vehicles. If you do not wish to become a member
of one of the single marque clubs in the Association, then Motorvatin'
USA AAC is the one for you. The full history of Motorvatin' USA,
from the very start to the present day Association is available
if you go to the link 'AACC-UK Profile' situated under the Clubs
section
Hi, my name is Trevor Lynn, I am secretary of Motorvatin' USA AAC
and one of its founder members. My family has owned American cars
since the 1950s and I bought my very own, a genuine 1972 Ford Mustang
Mach 1 351ci Cobra Jet in 1979. Although I owned the car for seven
years, it shared the paddock with a few others during this period,
namely, a 1969 Pontiac Firebird, two 1963 Oldsmobile F85s (coupe
and station wagon) and another '72 Mustang fastback. This car was
a base 302ci model, which I swapped for the Firebird - the deal
was done in the dark, but from next daybreak till today, I'm still
not sure who came off worst! This was quickly traded in against
a 1977 Chevrolet Caprice (thank goodness the dealer couldn't take
it above 30mph on the test run!).
In 1986 the Mustang Mach 1 was sold and I was left only with the
Oldsmobiles, and in the following year they too found new homes.
Next to catch my eye was a 1963 Ford Fairlane 260ci V8 (the first
Mustang engine). Although not the most sought after model, the condition
of this Rhodesian import was truly exemplary, having covered a genuine
54,000 miles and drove just like new. In 1988 I traded this for
a '79 Camaro Z28, and over the next seven years many more American
cars would take their turn to grace the drive way. These included
a '71 Firebird, '78 Camaro, '66 Mustang (another low mileage gem),
'68 GTO, '77 Firebird, '75 Corvette, '73 Baracuda, '70 Charger,
84 Dodge Ram Charger 4x4. From 1991-1995 I was the proud owner of
a superb '60 Thunderbird which had been subject to a detailed California
restoration, and for the last six years a 1957 Cadillac convertible
which has been restored over this period. So you could say I've
owned quite a few, though never more than two at a time and with
the odd exception, all were, or became, in extremely good order.
Very few people are lucky enough to own a collection of fine automobiles
- so many of us try to attain this experience one piece at a time.
Like many fellow-enthusiasts who volunteer their time and experience
to members, American car ownership has given me great pleasure over
the years; the club is my way of putting something back. Motorvatin'
USA was founded to make ownership easier - a one-stop club founded
to bring everyone together for the interests of the future. People
enjoy many different aspects of American car ownership. Some just
enjoy the restoration process, others driving them - or even just
showing them. There are also members who have never or may never
own an American car of their own, but respect, enjoy, and firmly
support what we all do. Whatever your preference, deriving pleasure
from the hobby is what its all about, and if in doing so you can
preserve a piece of motoring history for the next generation - even
better. That's my philosophy, and, I believe, that of the club as
a whole.
