2012 Chevrolet Camaro
Prices and specifications have been announced for the forthcoming 2012 Chevrolet Camaro
The latest series of the iconic Chevrolet muscle car will be available from £34,995 for the coupe and £39,995 for the soft-top convertible.
In addition, a special edition 45th Anniversary model will also be available. Finished in Carbon Flash Black paint with red and silver go-faster stripes, it wears 20-inch alloy wheels in dark silver and features a unique anniversary leather interior with red, white and blue stitching, and a white backed instrument panel.
Keeping to muscle car tradition, the Camaro is powered by an oversized General Motors 6.2-litre V8 engine, which develops 426bhp when combined with the standard fit six-speed manual gearbox. A six-speed automatic is also available as a £1,500 option, which limits engine power to 399bhp.
The engine is enough to get the Camaro from 0-60mph in 5.2 seconds (5.6 for the auto) and on to an electronically limited top speed of 155mph – enough for it to go toe to toe with revered European sports coupes such as the Audi RS5 and BMW M3, both of which have significantly larger price tags.
Order books for the new Camaro are now open at your nearest Chevrolet dealership, with the first customer cars being delivered in late spring 2012.
Chevrolet Camaro 2010 – All New reincarnation of a Classic Muscle Car
It was one of the most talked about concept vehicles in automotive history and now it's more than just a concept.
"The new Camaro delivers the best of both worlds - great heritage and a thoroughly modern, advanced package of performance, comfort and technology," said Ed Peper (in 2009), Chevrolet general manager. "It’s a sports car for a new generation of enthusiasts that doesn’t forget the heritage that helped make the original a cultural icon."
"Camaro delivers all of the things that make Chevrolet such a revered, global brand," said Peper. "It is a car that competes with the best sports cars in its class, but does so with surprising efficiency. That is no small feat, and it took a worldwide commitment to achieve it."
So there you have it, the new Camaro is now on the "Two Lane Black Top" and will be any time soon on the UK streets.
